Part of the Movie Maniacs 6 series from McFarlane, this 8-inch Predator 2 figure is detailed right down to its scaly feet. It’s covered in bits of coppery plastic armor and articulated at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist (twice), legs, knees (twice again so its legs can both kick and swivel), and ankles. Unlike the Hunter version of this figure–which is basically the same toy–this Predator comes with a mask that fits snugly over its head. Pull the mask off to reveal a punched-in face that would benefit from some serious dental work. The figure’s individual fingers line up with the little holes in the included throwing disk, and to show that even bogeymen can take a fall, this poor guy is wounded. First things first: these figures look great. The texture of their skin, teeth, and armor is rendered with loving detail, but it’s the little extras that really set these guys apart. For Predator, that means a necklace of skulls and a panel on his arm that opens and closes. And for Alien, it means a translucent skull and a second set of teeth that springs out of his mouth. Alien is the more posable of the two, with a greater number of points of articulation in his arms and legs, and a rubber tail that helps him remain upright, although neither figure can stand very well outside of the included alien landscape stage that has footholds for them.
